Candid Wedding Photography

Often every wedding needs more than one photographer to capture the treasures memories. Apart from the professional wedding photographer the friends and family will certainly take their own pictures during wedding and reception. There are two main types of photos when it comes to weddings -- posed shots and candid shots. Posed shots are important for the wedding album and feature the bride by herself, the bride and groom together, the couple with their wedding party and various other posed photos of the wedding and reception. Candid photos are not posed, and are more casual and creative. Most couples want a good mix of posed and candid photos for their wedding album.

When capturing candid photos, try shooting from a distance and not informing your subject they are being snapped. This will allow you to capture an authentic moment. Many people try to pose or make themselves look as flattering as possible which can look forced and ruin an otherwise good candid shot. When taking these types of pictures, capture emotional moments. There's no doubt that weddings are emotional events. You may want to get a picture of the first dance, the bride and groom smearing cake on each other's noses, the couple exiting the church.

Even though a wedding day runs rampant with emotions like love and sentimentality, let's not forget the humor. There are many playful moments just waiting to be captured. Try snapping some photos when a joke was told at the reception, or when the bride is tossing the bouquet to her eager bridesmaids. There are many lighthearted opportunities for great photos during the average wedding and reception. If you spot someone being goofy, by all means take a picture of it!

Another aspect of candid wedding photography is capturing the important moments and people as if you were shooting a documentary. This means allowing them to continue with whatever they are doing without paying attention to you snapping pictures. When taking candid shots, think of yourself as the paparazzi and your subjects as celebrities. This method can result in a great deal of fabulous candid shots for the wedding album. Although traditional posed photos are meaningful and beautiful, many married couples will tell you that their favorite pictures from their wedding are the candid ones!
